Maya Codex of Dresden page of manuscript
THE DRESDEN MAYA CODEX ( "Codex Dresdensis" ) was probably created in the north or northeast of Yucatan towards the end of the Postclassic, probably after a model from the classical period.
The Classic Period, which began around A.D. 250, was the golden age of the Maya Empire.
Maya manuscript Library of Dresden
he hieroglyphic writing system of the Maya is logosyllabic, i.e. it consists of both logograms (word signs) and syllabograms (syllable signs). Some signs, as ideograms (pictograms), directly represent the designated object.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a page from the Maya Codex of Dresden, a significant manuscript believed to have been created in the north or northeast region of Yucatan during the Postclassic period. It is thought to have been modeled after works from the classical period. The Classic Period, which flourished around A. D. 250, marked the pinnacle of the Maya Empire's prosperity and cultural achievements. This codex provides valuable insights into their sophisticated hieroglyphic writing system, known as logosyllabic. Combining both logograms (word signs) and syllabograms (syllable signs), this complex script allowed for intricate communication. Intriguingly, some symbols within this codex are ideograms or pictograms that directly represent specific objects or concepts. These visual representations add depth and richness to our understanding of ancient Mayan culture. This particular print is an original edition sourced from private archives and offers a glimpse into this remarkable piece of history. Its inclusion in America 1892 highlights its significance even during that time period. Displayed by Grafissimo at Fine Art Storehouse, this stunning image invites us to appreciate the beauty and complexity of Mayan civilization while reminding us of their enduring legacy in art, language, and culture.
