EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a stunning Branched altar cross from the 14th-15th century. Created by Js Goepel in 1881, this etching beautifully captures the intricate details of a silver parcel-gilt cross that dates back to around 1350. The crucifix itself is adorned with exquisite enamels and pearls, making it a true masterpiece of craftsmanship. The focal point of this cross is undoubtedly the crucified Christ, flanked by the figures of the Virgin Mary and St John. Their presence adds an element of devotion and reverence to this religious artifact. As we gaze upon this remarkable piece, we are transported back to an era where artistry met spirituality. The delicate engravings, gilded accents, and meticulous attention to detail remind us of the rich artistic heritage that thrived during medieval times.
