EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the regal presence of Don Fernando de Aragon, also known as Ferdinand II, the Catholic King. Dressed in his royal robes, this portrait showcases his authority and power as the ruler of Sicily, Aragon, Castile (through marriage to Isabella I), Naples, and Navarre. Ferdinand II played a significant role in history alongside his wife Isabella I. Together, they sponsored Christopher Columbus' first voyage in 1492 which led to the exploration and colonization of new lands. Their partnership not only strengthened Spain's influence but also had a profound impact on Christianity during that time. In this image from around 1910, we see Ferdinand II exuding confidence and grace. His attire reflects both his religious devotion as a devout Catholic and his status as a monarch. The monochrome aesthetic adds an air of nostalgia to this snapshot from the early 20th century. As one gazes upon this print, it is impossible not to be transported back in time to an era when kings ruled with absolute authority. Don Fernando de Aragon stands tall as a symbol of unification and sovereignty – a true embodiment of Spanish royalty at its finest.
