In this striking photograph, Arthur Winnington-Ingram, the sixth Bishop of London, is seen in full regalia as he attends the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in Westminster Abbey on June 12, 1937. The Bishop, who served in this esteemed position from 1935 until his retirement in 1951, is depicted wearing the traditional robes and mitre of the Bishop of London. The coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth was a significant moment in British history, as the new monarch ascended to the throne following the abdication of his brother, King Edward VIII. The event brought together the political and religious leaders of the time, including Winnington-Ingram, to witness the formal investiture of the new king and queen.
