EDITORS COMMENTS
This print transports us back to the picturesque harbour of Polperro in Cornwall during the late 19th century. Taken by photographer Lewis Harding, this image captures a stunning view over the rooftops towards Chapel Rock, also known as Peak Rock. From the vantage point of Osprey Cottage on the eastern cliff, we can see boats peacefully moored in the harbor below. The photograph offers a glimpse into daily life at that time, with people going about their activities along the coast. The charming Calvinist Meeting House can be spotted in the bottom right corner of the picture, adding historical significance to this scene. This particular photographic print is part of "The History of Polperro" manuscript by Thomas Q. Couch from 1878. It builds upon Jonathan Couch's earlier work published in 1871 and provides valuable insights into Polperro's past. As we admire this snapshot frozen in time, it is impossible not to appreciate both its artistic beauty and its historical importance. The coastal charm and natural splendor captured here remind us why Cornwall has long been cherished for its breathtaking landscapes and maritime heritage
