Uluru (Ayers Rock)
Uluru (Ayers Rock) in the Northern Territory, Australia. Uluru is an inselberg, a steep-sided hill of solid rock that rises out of a plain because of the erosion of the material around it. Uluru is the largest monolith in the world, rising 348 metres from the desert floor and having a circumference of about nine kilometres. It is made of arkosic sandstone. Photographed in January 2003
