EDITORS COMMENTS
This iconic print captures The Beatles' second live performance on CBS's Ed Sullivan Show, which took place in Miami, Florida. Filmed at their hotel, the Deauville, on Sunday 16th February 1964, this historic event drew an audience of 2,600 lucky fans. However, tensions ran high as CBS had distributed only 3,500 passes and many ticket holders were left disappointed outside the venue. Police had to intervene to calm the angry crowd. The Beatles' first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show had occurred just a week prior in New York City on 9th February 1964. In this particular image from that memorable night in Miami Beach, we see Paul McCartney positioned on the left side of the frame while George Harrison stands next to him towards his right. Behind them is Ringo Starr with his drum set and partially out of shot is John Lennon standing to the right. Taken by Daily Mirror photographer (s) during their rehearsal or perhaps even during their actual performance itself on that fateful evening in February '64; this photograph truly encapsulates not only a significant moment for music history but also showcases each member's individual presence within one of the most influential bands of all time - The Beatles.
