One of the antennae (a sensory structure) is seen below and right of the compound eye, and is attached to the head at a point to the right of the eye. Part of the other antenna is seen at bottom right, behind the ants mouthparts (lower right). The ants thorax (upper part of its body, upper left) has six jointed legs attached to it. These legs are partially seen at lower centre and lower left. Sensory hairs are also seen. Ants are social insects that can form colonies of several million individuals
