Uranus and most of its nine major rings along with the distant Sun and an inner satellite
Most of the nine major rings of Uranus can be seen in this back-lit painting of Uranus. At far right the distant sun can be seen, dimmed by its distance of over 19 times as far away as when seen from Earth. The object at lower center is very likely U15-Puck, one of the many minor inner satellites lying between the rings and the major moons of Uranus. With a diameter of 150 km and radius of 70 km this minor moon is probably composed of dirt and ice and has a very low albedo, or reflectivity. The rings of Uranus, aligned with the equator, shows how the planet is tipped over 90 degrees, which makes it unique within our solar system and causes the north and south poles to alternately point toward the sun during the planets 84-year period of completing a single orbit around the sun

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the mesmerizing beauty of Uranus and its nine major rings, bathed in a soft backlit glow. The distant Sun, appearing as a faint speck at the far right, reminds us of the immense distance between our planet and this enigmatic gas giant. At the lower center of the image, we catch a glimpse of U15-Puck, one of Uranus' many minor inner satellites nestled amidst the rings and larger moons. U15-Puck is an intriguing celestial object with its modest dimensions - measuring 150 km in diameter and 70 km in radius. Composed primarily of dirt and ice, this diminutive moon possesses an incredibly low albedo or reflectivity. The alignment of Uranus' rings along its equator offers a striking visual representation of how this peculiar planet is tilted over 90 degrees from our perspective on Earth. This unique characteristic causes Uranus to experience alternating periods where its north and south poles face towards or away from the Sun during its lengthy 84-year orbit. Frank Hettick's digitally generated illustration masterfully captures these celestial wonders against a backdrop that evokes deep space's vastness. With no human presence to distract from their magnificence, this image invites viewers to contemplate the mysteries that lie within our universe – from planetary systems to cosmic phenomena like asteroids and ring systems.
