EDITORS COMMENTS
In this heartwarming print captured in 1963, school teacher Mrs Sheila Collier is faced with an unexpected surprise during roll call at Knolls Lane Primary School in Oldham. As she called out the names of her students, she discovered an extra pupil sitting attentively beside four-year-old Sally Ann Smith - a giant golden retriever named Brandy. It seems that Brandy simply refused to be separated from his beloved companion and insisted on joining Sally Ann in the classroom. Unable to resist their unbreakable bond, Mrs Collier made a compassionate decision to let Brandy stay for the day. Sally Ann has been inseparable from Brandy since she was just learning how to walk. The loyal golden retriever followed her every step, providing comfort and companionship throughout their adventures together. However, when Sally Ann began attending school recently, it became difficult for both of them to understand why they had to be apart each day. This extraordinary scene showcases not only the unconditional love between a child and her pet but also highlights the empathy and understanding displayed by Mrs Collier towards her young student's attachment. It serves as a reminder that sometimes unconventional solutions can bring joy and ease into our lives. This timeless image captures a beautiful moment where education meets compassion, leaving an indelible mark on all those who witness it.
